Eva
Creative with Music
Since 2015, Eva has been dedicated to bringing music and creativity to the attention of the teachers working with Alvan Tsarik. She has traveled to Armenia three times with different projects.
In April 2015, the focus was on the joy of making music, thinking in possibilities, and accessible music education. Eva saw that young children in Armenia were singing and dancing at a high level, but that music education was primarily focused on the final result. In preparation, she gathered instruments such as recorders and xylophones, supported by the local music school. In Armenia, she distributed these instruments to nine preschools. After a training session for the teachers on making instruments and improvisation, Eva visited the schools to make music with the children. The week ended with a Play-in, where the children improvised with Eva and a band from Gyumri.
In 2017, Eva worked in the new Alvan Tsaghik Educational Centre alongside the then-teacher Lusine to integrate music into the curriculum. They developed creative ways to teach songs, stimulate imagination, and use music in math and language lessons. The week concluded with a Play-in, where the children played musical games and performed Eva’s new composition.
In 2019, the goal was to develop a sustainable creative curriculum for the Alvan Tsaghik Educational Centre. Eva wrote a program with short- and long-term goals and conducted training to make music education more accessible. She demonstrated how children could create music without the use of sheet music, using pictures of animals and colors, for example. Together with teachers Arusyak and Meri, Eva worked daily on lessons, which were evaluated after each session. The curriculum emphasized the process over the result. The children created small compositions, explored sounds, and played conductor games.
The goal of the project is to bring joy to music education, with room for creativity and discovery.
